Guest Columns Perspective: Weekly content is kingSusan Quarne Susan Quarne is publisher of Cheese Market News® and has been overseeing the inner workings and leadership of the publication since its inception in 1981. After 44 years and 2,288 back-to-back newspaper editions, Cheese Market News (CMN) is looking forward to starting 2025 as the only weekly newspaper serving the vertical cheese and dairy space. Our exclusive content in our weekly printed publication is a valuable resource in the fast-paced and ever-evolving cheese industry. Yes, we offer our publication digitally — you can read CMN on the go, wherever you are via our app — but many key decision makers still want to feel, hold and read a printed newspaper each week. My staff and I enjoy creating interesting and relevant content week in and week out. The original weekly news cycle each Friday originated around capturing the trading at the National Cheese Exchange (renamed in 1975 after the exchange first came on the scene in 1956 in Plymouth, Wisconsin, and then moved to Green Bay, Wisconsin, in 1975). When Cheese Market News debuted its first edition in March 1981, we were the first publication to wait and include the “trading activity” of the exchange, which was the staple of our format and what the industry wanted to see. From there, our timely coverage has grown substantially to include exclusive resource magazines and specialty sections that only CMN provides including Key Players, our annual Market Directory, Retail WATCH, Plants in Progress, Packaging Progress, Ingredient Innovation, Women in Leadership and past segments including Legacy in Leadership, Mind of a Millennial and Cow to Curd: A Look Across the Nation. That’s in addition to reporting the current news and events happening each week in this vibrant industry. Our weekly news is fresh, current and applicable to the events and challenges that occur each week in this vital industry. Our news is reported in a timely and easy-to-read format so that you can continue operating your plants and selling your products, keeping in mind what is around the corner in terms of legislation, changing requirements and standards for business. Our weekly pressure is against the clock and not the news. We don’t stop the presses ever (not even during COVID) so that we can bring you our thought-provoking coverage that sparks in-depth conversations and gives you the tools and insight to become more profitable and efficient as well as more green and sustainable. We cover the hot topics so you can be enlightened when you are making key connections and doing business. The cheesemaking industry is full of inspiring statistics. Per capita cheese consumption in the United States was 40.5 pounds per person in 2024. More cheese capacity will be added in 2025 with more than $7 billion in new milk processing capacity currently under construction. And Cheddar prices soared to new highs ($2.6225 per pound) in fall of 2024. This industry innovates and works hard to make all this possible, and CMN is there to cover every important aspect and nuance that makes it all possible. Americans and the world love cheese, and so does Cheese Market News. We are excited to be your exclusive weekly resource for the best and brightest coverage in cheese and dairy. Stay tuned as we cover cheese innovations and growth for 2025 and beyond. We couldn’t be more thankful for your business and loyalty. Happy New Year! CMN |
